New build Hotel Oxford Road Manchester

OXFORD ROAD

(EXPRESS HOLIDAY INN)

The hotel site is triangular in shape fronting onto Oxford Road and the River Medlock, within the setting of the Refuge Insurance Building.

The hotel comprises a 3 storey plinth which follows the site boundary and a 14 storey slab block ascending from the cut of the river. The plinth formed in concrete would form a deck onto which 173 pre-fabricated containerised hotel rooms would be stacked restrained at either end with a concrete circulation core. The facades would be sheathed in anodized expanded aluminium mesh expressed as planes. A dialogue was sought in the layering between the visible and obscured, translucent and opaque.
